We hope everyone is having an amazing summer so far as we're mega busy in the promotional marketing industry and have so many campaigns happening this year, and there is one we have decided to blog about this month...

We live in a generation that sees the majority of us obsessed by 'health' and 'image'. A massive percentage of Instagram photos are pictures of 'healthy food' or a series at the gym. Everyone wants to look their best, everyone wants to feel the best that they can on the inside and on the outside. This is why we have decided to blog about one of the most exciting campaigns #TeamPOD have worked on this year - ParkLives.

Back in 2014, Coca Cola Great Britain announced that it was investing £20 million in community based physical activity programs across the country! ParkLives is a FREE local authority initiative which aims to get people active through a series of fun and engaging classes in local parks. Activities range from dance classes to pond dipping! You can be any age and fitness - just sign up online and turn up. The campaign aims to have one million people active by 2020 as a result of working in partnership in local communities. Free, informal, fun activities – emphasis on fun and sociability. Everyone is welcome! What is not to love?

Park Lives want to educate everyone that the free fun activities are happening right on their own doorstep – just sign up and come down! There are top instructors for great classes! Once they are signed up, users can search by park, postcode, activity and date or just find out what’s going on a city near them. Easy!

The event has a tiered approach; with Silver and Bronze activities across the 10 different cities in the UK. The Silver events consist of a small Pop Up Park being held in all 10 cities across various weekends whereas the Bronze event involves roaming hit squads encouraging members of the public to sign up to ParkLives and find out what activities are going on in their local community.

It's July and summer is in full swing (better late then never).

We always get amazing campaigns landing on our desk and this summer has been our busiest yet! One of the most exciting campaigns to come our way is a retro classic which spans across the decades…... 'GHOSTBUSTERS' The Movie is out now and #TeamPOD have been working with Sony's latest and greatest devices - the #Xperia, the #X and the #XA. Showcasing them to Call Centre and Head Office staff as well as communicating their blockbuster partnership with the movie itself!

As part of this exciting job, our aim was to 'Capture the unpredictable with Predictive Hybrid Autofocus', get exclusive Ghostbusters content, plus choose 12 movies from over 100 – including the original 1980s Ghostbusters movies, when you buy the Xperia™ X or XA on O2. Fun, eh?

The campaign started on 6th July and is finishing on the 22nd July where our team visited Head Office Call Centre locations in Cheshire, Rotherham and Berkshire. Recruitment Road show 2016

It’s the start of the New Year and we’re already getting excited about what 2016 is going to bring for all members of #TeamPOD. We’ve got some big campaigns coming up this year that will lead us all the way into the summer period which will give plenty of promotional work for everyone to fill their diaries up with. So in order to start building awareness of these promotional marketing campaigns and finding the best members of promotional staff to be the face of various brands, we’re introducing a recruitment road show at ten locations across the UK in order to start building upon working relationships within the industry.

The first stage of the recruitment road show starts now as we want to hear from you! We want to meet new and existing members of promotional staff that work inside the promotional marketing industry or would like to get involved and show off their qualities/skills that make them a reliable and effective team member. So by sending in an updated CV, giving us a call in the office or contacting us via social media; this could be your chance to really shine and progress with promotional work in 2016. We will then be going through all staff profiles and applications before setting up scheduled appointments once we’ve released dates and times of all ten locations that we’ll be visiting across the UK for local staff to come and meet us.

Star Wars - The Force Awakens

With the launch of the new ‘Star Wars – The Force Awakens’ film in cinemas, we’re looking back on the ‘Force Friday’ product launch that took place earlier this year in various stores across the UK. Consumers were invited into stores for an exclusive midnight opening to look into the new ‘The Force Awakens’ product range with the first fifty fans entering each store receiving a free ‘Star Wars - The Force Awakens’ poster.

Promotional staff engaged with the public at twenty three locations across the country where consumers were encouraged to take pictures of themselves in a Star Wars toy box and post on social media channels with the hashtag #ForceFridayatSmythes. There was even a Star Wars raffle and competition for the best dressed Stars Wars character to get fans in the mood.

We thought we would quickly show off this amazing campaign today and our support for the future of diary and dairy farmers this December with Arla’s White Wednesday’s campaign in the run-up to Christmas. The campaign highlights new research that shows the Great British public is keen to get behind farmers during the currently volatile period for milk prices. It also aims to reach consumers to encourage them to purchase its dairy products and support their farmers. And when you buy Arla farmer-owned dairy, 100% of the profits go back to farmer-owners and their families.

Activation mission

The aim is to reach out to the public at seven locations; five shopping centre and two town centre locations across the country. There will be farmers spreading the message that Arla is a farmer owned dairy co-operative and encouraging the public to support the dairy industry by purchasing Arla products through a Christmas card with a 50p coupon inside which can be used across a whole range of Arla products. Each location will have its own promotional stand which you can take a photo of and post on social media channels with the hashtag #WhiteWednesdays

The Xperia™ Z5 Experiential Stand has been up and running since the launch of the device in October and been travelling to selected shopping centres across the UK where consumers have been invited to step up to the split-second challenge! The aim is simply; challenging shoppers to an arcade-style game based around the ‘ultimate water balloon fight’ where they can capture photos at every level and showcases the main features of the camera. Consumers have been able to get their hands on the new Xperia™ Z5 and Z5 Compact which features the world’s best camera in a leading smartphone with its 23MP camera, ultrafast autofocus and 5x zoom capability. The promotional stand also consists of interactive zones through a PS4 Remote Play area alongside a demonstration desk which highlights the fantastic features that have been packed into Sony’s best ever design. So it's that time of year where everyone starts to get into the festive Christmas spirit and here at Pod Staffing we like to keep everyone that is involved with our promotional staffing agency with an up-to-date feature on whats going at Pod HQ. So we've created our 25 days of Christmas social media campaign starting from the 1st December and running all the way up until Christmas Day, potentially extending into the New Year. POD from my perspective

It's May already, summer's first official month and the darling buds are blooming. Arsenal are in their annual Cup Final and life at POD really is golden...

Since birth, POD have been fortunate enough to have been working with one of the UKs largest news providers, supporting their subscribers with hosts @ various projects throughout the UK. Through one of our longest standing agency relationships, they've actually become one of our most regular brands to work with over the years - we have now been privileged enough to have staffed approximately 250 exclusive cinema screenings and about 50 private celebrity Q&A's they arrange for subscribers to their membership. Our teams have been lucky enough to have worked at events with music icons such as Johnny Rotten, Paloma Faith and Bryan Adams...Sports stars Sol Campbell (Legend), Sachin Tendulkar, RaRaRaRaFfa Benitez & THE DAVID BECKHAM (again, Legend), as well as other celebrities such as the amazing David Attenborough. Not only are these really insightful events to be part of but a selected pool of experienced Brand Ambassadors are continually being requested back by the client which, of course, is the foundation to a fantastic working relationship.

The regular screenings, which take place at 25 different locations each time from Belfast to Plymouth and Exeter to Aberdeen have had us roll out over 6’250 staffing days!! Quite remarkable when at least three quarters of that number (if not more) has seen us booking the same personnel. A regular income for the Brand Ambassador and in turn, a regular face for the guests and cinema management to work with - its always good to have someone that knows exactly what they are doing, right? Without listing all 250, the movies screened have included Oscar winners such as The Theory Of Everything, Birdman and Big Hero 6 and most recently Avengers: Age of Ultron. In April we also assisted with a special live showing of the first episode from the new season of the hugely popular show Game Of Thrones. Timed with the airing of the episode in the United States, invited guests (most of whom were in fancy dress!) arrived at cinemas around the UK at 1am and our dedicated Brand Ambassadors - fuelled with their natural enthusiasm and a double espresso shot - were there to greet them.

Along with the main brief, the brands sister publication has also chipped in with some very exciting work for Pod, which has allowed us to provide even more staff for more hands on activations. These have included celebrations for the birth of The Royal Baby, several surprise desk drops at their HQ in London Bridge and also a special "Smile Campaign" where our teams travelled around the country, putting smiles on the faces of the public through lovely good deeds. Again, the client requested the same pool of staff as per the previously mentioned events – some of our Brand Ambassadors are pretty much considered full-time through these activities!

All of this only reiterates what we preach to everybody we meet - work well for us, and we'll pay the favour back with regular, enjoyable work! Make yourself a firm favourite with POD - it’s not too hard. We're not going to ask you to jump on stage and perform a Shakespeare script or ask you to bring your pet dog and make him jump rings of fire. It's as simple as working hard and just being you! We're not an agency that will easily forget about your outstanding, honest work. We actually KOS (know our staff) and that works both ways. Our Brand Ambassadors and Event Managers know the people that work in the office and building a relationship with those we employ benefits everyone involved - be it us, you, our client or the consumer themselves!

We're slack when it comes to blogging... but forgive us, its because we've been incredibly busy!!

Its March 2015 (HOW?) and we’ve been pretty damn slack when it comes to the Pod Blog. We’re sorry, we won’t do it again!

It’s quite notorious in the promotions industry that the start of the year can be quite quiet – but not here at Pod Staffing. We are continuing our Sony tour that began end of last year, we’ve just embarked on a huge tour with Anchor, whilst we’ve already enjoyed great events for Gillette, Tesco on Mother’s Day as well as a fantastic Cadburys project to name a few.

At Pod Staffing we believe in working hard, keeping busy, and staying focused is the key to success. We recognise and reward our staff members who live by this mantra by throwing them more work and constantly analysing their performance to take them from being a new recruit to one of our core event staff. Hard workers to the front of the queue, please!

We are proud of the core members of staff we have kept throughout the years of Pod Staffing, and we reward their loyalty with ours. That being said, the more campaigns and events that we have, the more staff we need. We are consistently welcoming fresh faces and we look forward to working with new talent.

At Pod Staffing, you are not just a number. We pride ourselves in meeting everyone who works for us. Every campaign is different and every personality differs. Matching your personality to the right campaign is our job. You? You just need to be yourself.

Happy 4th Birthday Pod Staffing

We can’t quite believe how quickly the past 4 years have flown by. Here at Pod Staffing we’ve accomplished so much in that time and grown as an agency; we’re incredibly proud of the work we’ve been a part of and all the faces we’ve met and welcomed to our fold along the way.

To celebrate our 4th birthday, we thought we’d look back over the years and reflect on some of our finest and favourite moments so far…

  • In 2012, we staffed experiential activities for 3 of the 11 headline sponsors of the London Olympic Games! All in all we provided 188 different staff for events before, during and after the games with varying skills including hairdressers, hosts, demonstrators, Russian speakers, nail technicians, merchandisers, event managers, brand ambassadors and more!
  • In 2013 we helped Chobani (the biggest selling yoghurt brand in the USA) activate a nationwide chilled sampling activation. The team covered 26,300 miles over 21 consecutive weeks of live activity with over 811,000 samples of delicious yoghurt distributed!
  • In 2013 we were also selected to train and manage 115 event specialists for BlackBerry on over 1,500 event shifts all over the nation. We successfully fulfilled every single shift with trained and accredited staff from Cornwall to Aberdeen alongside large scale national projects.
  • In 2014 we worked with established milkshake brand Cocio deliver a campaign across the UK across 29 days of activity, including Bestival, city centres, universities, influencer sites, John Lewis on Oxford Street and shopping centres. The activity is still live with the running total currently at 116,000 samples and counting!
  • So far, we’ve staffed experiential events in every single county in the UK, in most of Ireland and staffed tours across key cities in France and Germany!

So what does the future have in store for Pod Staffing? Well! We’re well on our way to increase our presence in the North of England. Some of our office team have been busy running 2014 summer meeting sessions in Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, Glasgow and Edinburgh; and in the next few months we’ll have an office in Manchester city centre!

WHAT DO OUR BA'S THINK?

For our latest blog post, we thought we’d ask some of our star Pod Staffing team members what they like about our industry and company, and if they have any tips they can share with any budding talent out there.

We found out that the top two reasons for working in the promotional industry is the flexibility in type of work and hours, as well as the range of work you end up doing.

“Promotional work allows for flexibility and variety - two things that I need. I get very bored doing the same thing over and over “, says Lee who’s been working in promotions for three and a half years. “I used to work at Tesco and it was turning me insane - I'd start singing at the checkouts to add some spice into my life!”

“I got into the promotional industry because I was looking for a job that was flexible in between auditions. Plus every job is different and you work with different people every time, which keeps it interesting. You never get bored!” says Toni who’s been working in promotions for over 8 years.

At Pod Staffing we work with a vast spread of brands from various different industries, ranging from technology, fast moving consumer goods (food, drink etc), beauty, alcohol, media, clothing; which means our staff get to work on a plethora of incredible projects.

But what have our staff enjoyed the most about working for Pod Staffing? “I've met so many lovely people and have made friends for life. It's also allowed me to see and travel a lot of the UK, which I may not have done otherwise.” says Lee again, one of our core staff on regular technology events.

“I feel valued when I work Pod Staffing. Everyone I speak to on a day to basis in the office is super friendly, and all the jobs I’ve done with Pod have been fun! Sometimes I can’t believe its work!” says Carla, an experienced Brand Ambassador from London.

So what pieces of advice would some of our Pod Staffing stars give to someone just starting out in the industry? “Get on with everyone. A lot of the promotional industry relies on word of mouth and recommendations from others, and if you do a good job then you will get more work. The cream rises to the top!“

FRIENDS 20TH ANNIVERSARY SOFA TOUR

This September 22nd marks the 20th anniversary of everyone’s favourite TV show Friends. Since Friends first hit our screens in 1994, the six New Yorkers have experienced break ups, make ups, getting married in Vegas and even saying the wrong name at the altar, providing us with magical moments and favourite quotes that are still as memorable today as they were 20 years ago.

To mark Friends officially turning 20, Comedy Central, the home of Friends in the UK, and Warner Bros. are celebrating the anniversary with a series of special events, ensuring its devoted fans remain the best of friends – including a UK tour for the iconic Central Perk sofa.

Warner Brothers, agency Public Worldwide and Pod Staffing are working together to activate this incredible tour, which has already visited Latitude , Edinburgh Fringe and Leeds festivals.  The activity consists of a replica of TV’s most famous sofa being installed with a backdrop at prominent UK locations, giving fans the chance to celebrate the anniversary with their friends, take a sofa selfie and sit on Central Perk’s sofa just as Ross, Rachel, Joey, Chandler, Monica and Phoebe did for all those years.

Fans can bring their own friends in on the fun by shouting about their sofa experience on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using #Friends20th.

5 SKILLS EVERY BRAND AMBASSADOR SHOULD HAVE

Over the past few months, we’ve been busy hosting meeting sessions all over the country in a bid to recruit some brand spanking new Pod Staffing team members. When you’ve been working in the experiential and promotional staffing industry as long as we have at Pod, it’s easy to spot the skills and experience that contribute to an outstanding promotional person. Some really specific attributes are required to be good at promotional work, so we thought we’d summarise those skills and explain why they matter.

CONFIDENCE.  You need to have some serious confidence to approach the public and persuade them to stop in their tracks and listen to what you have to say. Intercepting the daily life of a consumer and giving them brand and product information means having no shyness and no reservations. Our strongest team members are full of confidence, no fear and are content speaking to anyone in a crowd.

APPROACHABLE. Having a friendly, open, positive and helpful personality means the public will be more inclined to speak with you and will leave with a positive memory of their experience. Body language is key – smiling, animated and upward facing hands, talking to a consumer eye to eye for example. Consumers do not react well to gum chewing, chatting amongst your team, hands in pockets, staff using their phones for example. If you want to be an excellent brand communicator and make an impact you need to not only communicate the brand message clearly and concisely, but give the consumer a reason to take away the key brand message and remember their experience for all the right reasons.

PERSISTANCE. Through rain or shine it’s so important that your spirits stay high, positive and focused – regardless of the reaction from the public. The attribute of persistence ensures you are consistent throughout your working day, and you never let rejection or disregard get you down.

KNOWLEDGE. When working on a promotional activity that is consumer facing, promotional staff are a representative of The Brand. Learning all the information you require to competently perform your role will ensure that you are fully prepared for any questions the public may throw at you. Do your research on the brand and/or product in advance of each activity and read your activity brief from beginning to end at least twice. Ask questions if you are unsure of something and feedback any comments you feel could be beneficial to the brand and campaign in the long run.

ORGANISATION. One of the most important parts of a promotional person’s role is to be organised. Prepare for your days work in advance, prepare your journey to work, be punctual, and most importantly think ahead. This could be really basic things like preparing the correct clothes night before, what time to leave the house to ensure you arrive on time, or where to park, what to bring, who to contact and then more complex organisation in your role like problem solve any logistical issues you can foresee or reacting well to any issues that may occur on the day.

POD NORTH AND MEETING DAYS

Pod North

Pod North is a new element to Pod Staffing that we will be implementing over the next few months. Our goal is to have a permanent presence in the North of England enabling our Pod HQ team to be present at our live events, to conduct regular staff meeting days (ensuring we have the best fresh new talent available) and to increase the number of clients and projects we activate in the North of the UK.

In the long term, Pod North is fundamental in ensuring we are always developing as a company and that we are attentive and responsive to our staff, clients and projects as a whole.

 

Meeting Days

Over the next few weeks Pod Staffing will be hosting meeting days in some key cities throughout the North West of England.

These meeting days provide our potential staff with the chance to come meet us face to face, learn about our company ethics/way of working, and for staff to show us how their skills and experience can contribute to our fantastic work in experiential marketing.

Meeting days also provide us here at Pod HQ with the opportunity to reach out and meet more fresh Pod faces to join our team and help us seek the perfect people to suit our forthcoming events.

By meeting our staff face to face we get a better, thorough understanding of their personality, background, skill set and availability; thereby allowing us to book the right people for the right jobs. It is key for us to understand these elements in as much detail as possible so our clients receive the perfect staff for their project, and our staff can be booked on jobs they enjoy.

Event Reporting

Post event reporting is an essential part of what our field teams are responsible for at Pod Staffing.

We understand that every campaign has key performance indicators, and at each event there will be targets that need to be met in order for the overall event to be a success; and for our clients to achieve return on investment.

We know it’s crucial for our clients to review the results of a campaign after each day of activity. This provides opportunity to assess either its success with supportive quantitive or qualitative evidence, or a chance to review and quickly evaluate the campaign and implement changes to improve it.

We work with our clients on each campaign to develop a report form that is relevant, practical and useful for post campaign analysis. Usually our report forms include a selection of photography, daily figures  (whether that’s sales, samples or attendees etc) and consumer feedback on the activity overall. However if something bespoke is required we can work with our clients on whatever they need.

Our account team provide a thorough brief to staff on their full responsibility in advance to ensure they understand the detail and quality of the report they should produce after each event day; as well as any targets and KPIs they should achieve.

Event Managers especially, are equipped to manage this sort of responsibility. We only pick the best, brightest, and most experienced staff to become Event Managers at Pod Staffing – and a huge duty within this role is the ability to produce a comprehensive post event report for each day they work.

Our goal is to make sure our clients are provided with the best service possible, and a part of that role is not just to provide experiential staff, but to help arm them with the supportive data they will need to compose an evaluation or summary document after their campaign is complete.

STAFFING CASE STUDY – XBOX ONE LAUNCH

Pod Staffing worked with a UK based marketing agency to provide 3 international teams of promotional staff for the launch of Xbox One across Europe.

The activity involved specially made Cadillac Escalades, which transformed into mobile demo stations consisting of 6 Xbox playing screens.

Hardcore Gamers were booked in for time to play their favourite style of game ahead of the console’s launch.

The team visited many different types of events, and created a great hype in the 6 weeks prior to launch and 4 weeks after.  

All in all they visited 32 locations in the UK, 18 locations in Germany and 30 locations in France!

Here we are, starting another year – 2014. It’s been such an incredible journey for us at Pod Staffing HQ and we’re looking forward to taking on another year with all of our fantastic team.

2013 saw us work with so many brilliant clients and staff, and resulted in us working with our clients on many amazing projects.

The Best A Mo Can Get

Gillette’s ‘The Best A Mo Can Get’ barbershop opens today in Seven Dials. The store on Earlham Street will offer free lip trims to all ‘Mo Bros’ throughout Movember.

On arrival, all men growing their ‘tache in the name of charity will be welcomed with a complimentary drink and then treated to a luxury shaving experience and a Mo groom from a qualified barber. The barbershop will be home to all manner of gentlemanly distractions entertainment including table football and classic games. A number of events will take place in the store throughout the month such as comedy nights, acoustic performances and PlayStation games nights.

In addition the store will become home to Mo Gents United, the Gillette team of champion Mo growers and are inviting any men taking part in Movember to join in a bid to raise money for the cause. All participants will have the opportunity to get involved in challenges and win prizes.

Pod Staffing’s Staff Selection Process

At Pod Staffing we pride ourselves on always implementing processes to pick the right staff for the right activities. We believe that by knowing our staff inside out, and by hand picking them specifically for every single job, this will mean not only a successful promotional activity (and a happy client), but also a satisfied and content member of staff.

When we recruit we sift through hundreds of applications, and we thoroughly interview our candidates to ensure that they have the right attributes for promotional work. Post interview, we use our online database to make notes on their experience, interests and qualifications; enabling us to use our database as a search facility to find staff with the right skill set for each particular job.

Not only this, but our Account Management team spend time getting to know our staff. By using our knowledge and contacts in the industry we not only book people with the correct qualifications and experience, but we hand pick the right personalities as well.

There’s a growing trend within the industry whereby agencies are booking staff via social media or based on availability only (you’re free? You’re in!) However we spend time and effort to ensure that staff are booked as far in advance as possible so we can apply the care and knowledge that each job requires. Our ethos is to provide the best service possible not only to our clients but also to our staff.

Our on site Event Managers evaluate our staff, as well as regular visits from our Account Managers and regular Mystery Shoppers. This enables us to develop the skills of our staff, and provide each staff member with the information and feedback they require to get better and better.

Festival Fever

Now the sun has finally started to shine, we’re beginning to get excited here at Pod about what the summer season is going to bring. And of course, along with those very welcome rays of sunshine comes the long awaited festival season!

Mainstream UK festivals such as V Festival, Leeds & Reading Festival, O2 Wireless, Bestival and Isle of White get attendance of between 20,000 – 130,000 people over their duration. This year high profile acts such as Justin Timberlake, Snoop Dogg and Elton John are performing the festival circuit, along with an array of others that draw in the crowds.

Festivals are a great place for brands to reach a mass audience. Everyone is in a great mood, generally have plenty of spare time to enjoy an experience and there’s a consistently high footfall to engage with. You’ll often see a flurry of different brands hosting experiential activity at festivals because of how receptive consumers are at this type of event.

Pod isn’t a stranger to festival focused experiential events. We’ve been working with P&G on various types of activities for a while, including an incredible event at Isle of White Festival for Herbal Essences. The activity offered festival go-ers the chance to get a free sample of shampoo and conditioner in the mornings, then had a free styling bar for guests to help themselves or be styled by our stylists using hair dryers, straighteners, curling tongs, hairspray, grips, gels – the lot! The activity also offered consumers the opportunity to upload a picture of their ‘do’ onto the Herbal Essences Facebook page to share with their friends.

A massively successful activity ideal for the festival atmosphere where it’s notoriously difficult to keep your hair in good nick! Pod provided experienced hair dressers and stylists, and an Event Manager for the project. Technology in Experiential

Over the course of the last few years, the digital and technological aspect of experiential marketing has increasingly become a more and more important element of a campaign.

There are a few reasons for this. One of which is that you’ll be hard pressed to name 10 of your friends that don’t have a Facebook / Twitter / Instagram / Vine account proving the world is becoming more online present (except maybe excluding some of the older generation) and that most people want to share experiences they have with their entourage of online friends.

This in turn provides experiential marketing not only the opportunity to engage with the very person that they interact with personally, but to also be seen by everyone’s friends and contacts.

As an example, over 1 billion people worldwide have a Facebook account, with the average user having 150 friends. So, say at an experiential stand you engage with 100 people face to face and they upload a photo or post about what they’ve seen, there’s potential for 15,000 people to see the product of the activity. A huge amount of reach is available via social networking channels, which of course if crucial to brand awareness and messaging.

RFID (radio frequency identification) is a common piece of digital kit used in events. It allows consumers to register a card (with a chip inside) that links to their Facebook page (done usually via the internet). Guests can walk around an exhibition / stand / event picking and choosing what items they want posted onto their Facebook page using this, the result of which makes the event personal to the consumer, yet high tech and interesting.

There’s many other ways digital content is utilised in experiential activity, live Twitter feeds, social networking competitions, and incentives to share brand content on your feed.

Another reason technology is so important to experiential marketing is that it’s crucial for brands to keep a modern, forward thinking and progressive image. As technology develops brands want to be high tech and innovative, therefore using the variety of technology available.

An example of this being 3D projection mapping is a stunning (and expensive!) feat for a brand to undergo. 3D projection mapping is programmed to project amazing imagery on buildings, cars, monuments – anything. It provides the viewer with what seems like a 3D experience.

Living in the age of progressive technology and social media is a massively important tool for brands, and it’s important to utilise this seeing as social network, mobile smart phones and high tech gadgets are heavily engrained in our lives. Experiential marketing is about a brand engaging with people on a personal level – now made a lot easier by current technology.

The importance of getting your promotional team RIGHT

Having the right promotional team working on any kind of experiential activity should be at the forefront of any agency or brand’s mind. Experiential marketing is based on the entire experience a consumer has with a product or service. On an experiential marketing activity one of the first encounters any consumer will have is the ‘face’ that demonstrates, explains or offers a sample of that product or service. It’s crucial that the team are relevant, enthusiastic, motivated and knowledgeable.

As a representative of a brand, staff should have the ability to create an appealing first impression. Research suggests that consumers form an opinion of a brand representative in seven seconds, and when speaking to consumers face to face 93% of this judgement is based on non-verbal data - appearance and body language, while only 7% is influenced by the words that are spoken. So, with this in mind it’s key that brand ambassadors are capable of engaging consumers almost immediately.

With staff not having a great deal of time to make an impact, there are a number of skills that a promotional team should have. Overall, staff should be presentable, approachable, hard working, reliable and adaptable. It’s also crucial that staff are consistently motivated and evaluated to maintain this high quality set of skills.

To begin with, we interview every person that works on an activity with us and ensure they have the top-notch communication skills that are fundamental to interacting with consumers and portraying brand messages. Once staff are selected, they are consistently reviewed on every activity they work. We have a national core team of Event Managers that complete an evaluation on every staff member, grading them based on their performance in the field on each activity day they work. This along with regular site visits and mystery shops from the office team means our staff are always monitored.

All Pod Account Handlers have an in depth understanding of everyone on their database. We believe this is an integral part of our business enabling us to suggest the most appropriate team for a client brief. Because of our understanding of the industry as a whole and of our database, clients can be assured that any person we book on a campaign will be perfectly matched to the role.

Specialist skills

A key part of creating a successful experiential campaign is to make it innovative and entertaining. Incorporating staff with specialist skills can create theatre or simply help portray an exciting brand message utilising these abilities.

The team at Pod Staffing have been involved with some incredible campaigns over the years, many involving specialist staff. With access to a huge database of people, we’ve helped many clients find the exact skills they require.

The Gillette Movember Salon in Carnaby Street was a recent feat. Experienced wet shavers were required, and given thorough training at a swanky Savile Row barbershop. The goal was to provide men participating in charity event Movember a free trim of their tash and an overall shave. Pod Staffing also provided a presenter/character (Adam Kelbie) for an incredibly unique campaign, Febreeze at Westfield White City. Adam’s role was to sit in a glass box for a week, entertain the public and post videos up on social networks of his progress each day (not your usual 9-5!). The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games seem like a distant memory already. One of the biggest most exciting recent events that the UK has been a venue to, the events had millions watching in amazement at this incredible spectacle that united the country.

Stratford was the heart of the activity during the games. The area regenerated for the games; The Olympic Village, new shopping centres, new train stations, and much more, creating an exciting hub for the centre piece of the event. The Village spread over 500 acres of space, and the Stadium had a capacity of 80,000, which of course meant a consistent high footfall over the duration of the games.

Of course with this high level of audience attendance and international presence, it’s no surprise that the Olympics Games hosted a flurry of experiential and marketing activity. Not just in the Village itself but all across London and even the country!

We at Pod Staffing were proud to be involved heavily in staffing a variety of different projects alongside the Olympics.

We provided high quality staff for the P&G USA Family Home (housed at Vinopolis in London Bridge) and P&G Canadian Family Home (housed at the Canadian Embassy). The team provided were mixtures of Stylists, Make up Artists, Event Managers, Hosts, Hairdressers and Brand Ambassadors, our teams on hand to assist the Olympic athletes however they could whether it was styling their hair, painting their nails, doing their laundry, running a baby and toddler area – the lot!

The client said post event, "Happy about how brilliant the team were would be a gross understatement! This is an amazing group and we are incredibly thankful to Pod for such high standards."

Samsung were a worldwide partner of the London 2012 Olympics, so athletes, LOCOG members and organisers and others were given a Samsung handset when beginning their involvement in the games, so we provided a team of 30 mobile technicians to be based across all the Olympics sites to provide technical support during the games. The team covered 680 shifts over The Games in total!

Welcome to the brand new Pod Staffing website – and new blog! To start things off here’s a brief summary of what Pod Staffing is all about and our journey to where we are today.

The birth of Pod Staffing.

Pod Staffing was created by Joe Sheppard, an industry expert with 12 years of experience under his belt. He wanted to start an experiential staffing agency that brought everything back to basics. One that focused on providing the best quality service to clients and to staff, utilising his years of industry knowledge, connections and understanding of where priorities should lie in an ever-changing industry.

At Pod Staffing staff and clients are well looked after. Whether it's a dedicated account handler to ensure a client gets the high quality service they deserve, or it's fast payment for staff in the field ensuring they have a good incentive to do the best job possible. Clients and staff also have full support from our account team, available for them 24/7. We pride ourselves on going over and above to get results, offering help and advice to clients on how we can make their campaign come to life, and recommendations on cost effective way to execute their staffing requirements.

We have an extensive database of enthusiastic and proactive staff that is developing day by day. At Pod we ensure that our database is kept up to date and that by running many processes to evaluate performance, we only work with the best brand communicators in the business.

Because of these values Pod has developed into an agency with a fantastic reputation. Since our birth, we have worked with some incredible clients on some amazing jobs. Providing the staff for many award-winning activities (The Proctor & Gamble Beauty & Grooming Parlour at the 2012 London Olympic Games, and The Gillette & Venus Experiential Tour to name a few) we have progressively grown into a thriving agency with many happy clients, and thousands of happy field staff.

Here at Pod Staffing we believe that a campaign can only be as effective as the people recruited to bring it to life. So the importance of using existing knowledge of our staff to pick the right people for a client brief, and then motivating them with good management, good rates, and quick payment has proven to be the bare bones strategy of achieving this. We are a hard working company that want to work with likeminded people.
